I see lots of posts about these drugs, mostly praising them. Neither has worked well for me. I am impotent from prostatectomy. At least some of the problem is that a half hour after taking a pill, I feel like I'm coming down with the flu--headache, dizzyness, malaise etc.
It lasts nearly the whole day. Any suggestions?

I have had problems with getting an erection for years. I assume it's because of my blood pressure and cholesterol medications. I was using 100 mg of Viagra for the past few years. Some times it produced enough of an erection for penetration. Often it did not. I had my prostate, seminal vessicles, and some lymph nodes removed Sept. 30, 2005. Since then I have tried Viagra 100mg Cialis 20 mg MUSE, 500 and then 1000 mcg. Caverject, 5, 10, 15, then 20 mcg. Caverject 20 mcg plus Viagra 100 mg or Cialis 20 mg None of these produced enough of an erection for penetration. Latest attempts have been with Trimix. My urologist told me to start out with .2 ml and work up to .5 ml if needed. The .2 and the .3 did not work. Using .4 with a cock ring produced enough of an erection which lasted long enough for penetration and (dry) orgasm. This was the only penetrative sex I have had in a year. The erection quickly wilted after orgasm. I thought I might have finally found something that worked. Next time I tried the .5 ml dose and nothing happened. No erection, just a little swelling. I'm not sure now how long ago that was. It was some time in September. I got so discouraged and depressed I haven't tried anything since. My suggestion. Talk to your doctor about injections like MUSE,Caverject, EDEX, or Trimix. MUSE, Caveerject, and EDEX cause aching of the testicles and penis for some guys. Trimix does not seen to cause that aching. So far, Trimix is the only thing that worked for me, even though it only worked once and did not work the last time I tried it.

I'm sorry, but I have to slap you guys around for giving up so easily! Injecting takes practice. I was lucky in that my erections didn't depend on my accuracy because in the first FIVE injections three where off. That's second, fourth and fifth! And also the tenth where the stuff backed under the skin and left a buble brused just when a rather willing lady was back in town. Saying no actually hurt. But that next injection, because I never gave up, worked GREAT. Even though I still had to hold off on sex, it was good to have help and someone to take a licking to. What I'm saying is that not EVERY injection will tow up to the mark or even run, but you have to try past the failures

Daniel -
Try taking either a couple Bayer aspirin, or a couple ibuprofen (e.g., Advil, Motrin, etc.) half an hour before the PDE-5 inhibitor (Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra). It won't make the drug any more effective but might eliminate or at least help the side effects for you.
I'd also try the drug(s) in combination with a vacuum pump and venous flow restrictor ("cock ring"). I just ran across this group and am not familiar with your history ~ was your prostatectomy for cancer? Was it open radical retropubic prostatectomy? Were either or both of the nerve bundles spared? And how long ago was it?
Best of luck.

Ernest say:

It is so easy to have an unreliable injection because the needle is tough to stop between the walls of the cavity when the penis is flacid perhaps drawn tight over your thigh.

Try this and your luck will change.

Tease the penis till you get some blood to flow in, even a little might be enough. Squeeze the blood toward the head and hold tight inflating the penis to normal erect diameter at the injection site.
Inject deep to be sure you are all the way thru the walls of the cavity and unload the syringe. If you get a nodule then you know you are in the wall and this can cause scarring.

If you got a firm erection once, you will be able to get them 100% of the time from now on, trust me.
